At her first SC nats (2nd or 3rd comp ever) she took top 8 in her clsss and easily qualified for the Arnold Amateurs. Another successful comp for HOP strongman athlete @nick_boyce . First place finish in the 175lb class at the Space City Strongest Man/Woman in Texas this past weekend. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Nick flew through the events and barely seemed to break a sweat picking up event wins across the board. Conditioning, speed, and technique efficiency is something we pride ourselves on when developing our athletes and one reason why we are able to compete with athletes who are much stronger/bigger. Even at a true 175lb (doesn’t cut weight) Nick has shown in the past that pure static strength is only one factor required in the sport of Strongman. Having beaten several 200 and 231 athletes in past, especially when it comes to the tough and gritty events like Hussafel, conans wheel, and any front carry/drag medley. We train our athletes to not only go the distance but to have more in the tank for the next events. While others struggle to finish and maintain control they begin to tap into their strength reserve which limits them for the events to come. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ If your looking to get into the sport of strongman or trying to take your strongman game to the elite levels start by getting yourself a good coach and crew to help push you. As always the competition will take place in the beautiful northern CA city of Anderson at the Shasta District Fairgrounds. This is a grueling two day competition with 10 events total, 5 each day. This year it will be a dual sanctioned event as we have collaborated with @ihgfofficial and @unitedstatesstrongman federations. Cash prize for overall winner of both days as well as qualifier for Day 1 IHGF Stones of Strength US championship held in San Clemente, CA. Winner of day 2 gets an invite and paid flight to compete in the notorious @strongmanchampionsleague held and televised in Europe (location TBD) ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Day 1 Stones of Strength Qualifier ➖ Natural Stone Press-275lb stone or 230lb stone. All athletes will be given chance to press the 275. If no reps then they move down to 230lb stone. 60sec time limit
➖The Denny Walk- (lighter replicas of the OG Dinny stones) @ 300lb and 340lb per hand. Max distance. Athletes get only 2 drops. 60sec time limit ➖Natural Husafel stone (350-400lb) max distance. ➖55lb stone putt. 3 attempts. Best throw of 3 attempts will be taken. ➖Stone to shoulder. 350 or 400lb stone. Athletes will get to attempt the heavier stone. If no reps recorded they go to lighter stone. Larger stone trumps smaller. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Day two- SCL qualifier ➖Trump log- 360lb or 320lb log for Reps. All athletes given choice to hit 360 log. Supposed to find max double. Ran out of real estate and was too lazy/stupid to reload the log to get 380lb to fit (which is what ended up happening anyway 🤦♂️). Confident I would have hit the 380 for a double had I loaded it proper the first time. Still happy how everything felt and moved. Hit comp weight and by then I’m confident I’ll hit 2 maybe 3. I’ll take a hit points wise but that’s to be expected. Log feeling better each week. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Team HOP infiltrating the LA fitexpo this past weekend. 8 competitors in total as our brothers/sisters from @victoryapparelandathletics came all the way from Kentucky to play strongman. This was a Plat Plus show and the competitors were no off the couch slouches. Extremely proud of how this team comes together to support even if they weren’t competing (as good teammates do). ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
For our women athletes this was their first strongman comp and we all remember what that’s like. Nerves/anxiety levels are high, making it difficult to focus. We had no expectations going into this show for them. We just wanted to see how they handled themselves in a foreign environment and too execute. After day one their mindsets shifted from just wanting to compete to winning. Best part, they were not satisfied. These are athletes who love to win and after getting their first taste are only hungry for more. These girls have a TON of potential (Odd Haugen confirms this so you know it’s legit). The boys had equal amount of success and all put everything they had to earn their spot. No crybabies or whiners on this team despite having a few controversial issues that are out of your hands. As the old saying goes “nobody like a quitter”. This team has NO QUIT and always finish strong. This is what it means to be a HOP athlete. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖

Pro strongman and co- owner of House of Power gym in Orange County, CA @casey_the_unwonted took the stage against the top strongmen in the world this past weekend for the @arnoldsports @strongmancorporation Santa Monica. This was Casey’s 3rd Arnold competition (2nd as a pro). Definitely a huge improvement from his last Arnold performances especially considering the amount of weights used. @nyckhouseofpower has done amazing work to keep Casey healthy and able to compete at the top level of this insane sport. Just to be able to get to this level is a feat in and of itself and carries a great deal of intrinsic value. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Many see the end product but never the road it took to get there. We see either the athlete succeed or fail. What we see on social media doesn’t tell the whole story though. We see only a few seconds of work but the ACTUAL work started the second that athlete gets up out of bed. Nobody sees the 330am wake up, the 8-10hr work days, the hours of meal prepping, spending quality time with family/kids, etc...before going to the gym for 2-4hrs and destroying their bodies even more. Yes it’s a choice but for many of the athletes this is what they must endure to be able to compete at the top. Strongman, even at the top levels, doesn’t pay a livable wage so we can’t just train strongman all day. In fact most have to pay their way to these big shows. Flights, hotels, food are rarely covered. Many people on the outside looking in think that’s all they do is train and eat and get paid to travel the world to lift heavy things. Only a few are given that privilege. It takes so much more than what we see to get there and the sacrifices made deserve respect and recognition. But what this sports lacks in money it makes up for in friends, experiences, and glory (and sometimes impressive physiques).
